Tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) are an increasingly popular modality of therapy, especially among adolescents and young adults. One popular TTRPG is Dungeons and Dragons, a fantastical adventuring game that can address themes of connection, confidence, and self-exploration. In this episode, Julia Stamman shares her experiences as a Game Counselor facilitating virtual D&D therapy groups and provides some tips and tools for counselors who may be interested in running their own therapeutic campaigns.

Julia Stamman (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Austin, TX. She is the owner of Heart of the Realm, a private practice that specializes in working with adults who self-identify as geeks, gamers, and misfits. Julia has been running D&D therapy groups focused on anxiety and depression online since 2020. She has spoken at conventions such as PAX South and SXSW about D&D Therapy and its benefits. Julia is currently running intensive training groups for other mental health professionals who would like to run their own D&D Therapy Groups.
