About Susanne:

portrait

Susanne has been in the mental health field for the last 40 years+ as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist. She has worked with a wide variety of clientele including the intellectually challenged, young children in low income areas, the physically challenged, adults and children with both psychiatric and addiction issues, persons dealing with death and dying and other grief issues, as well as with couples, families and individuals dealing with trauma and interpersonal conflict.

She has presented at many conferences and workshops over the years and taught a marriage and family therapy course as an adjunct professor. Respect has consistently been a central theme in her work, life, and her greater wish for the world we live in. In 2001 Slay-Westbrook wrote a book, A World of Respect: A Guide to Making It Happen, in which she discusses the universal need for and prevalent lack of genuine respect in today’s society, offering hands on suggestions for change.

Susanne is pleased to announce that her latest book, Respect-Focused Therapy: Honoring Clients Through the Therapeutic Relationship and Process, is now available as a Research Monograph published by Routledge, for academic and clinical purposes. This volume stresses the profound need for respect in therapy to be central in the therapeutic relationship and healing process.
