About Raissa & Eric:

Dr. Miller is an Associate Professor and Addiction Program Coordinator at Boise State University. She has over ten years clinical experience, including approximately seven years as a clinical supervisor. She is an active member of a number of professional counseling associations, serving as President for the Idaho Society of Individual Psychology and as faculty advisor for the Beta Sigma Upsilon chapter of Chi Sigma Iota chapter at Boise State. Dr. Miller specializes in applying principles of neurobiology within counseling to address a wide range of developmental and clinical concerns, including anxiety, addiction, trauma, and interpersonal distress. Her primary research interest is focused on studying and furthering the scholarship related the integration of neuroscience and counseling, including neuroeducation, neuroscience-informed cognitive behavior therapy (nCBT), and other neuroscience-informed teaching and practice approaches. She is the co-author of the new book The Neuroeducation Toolbox: Practical Translations of Neuroscience in Counseling and Psychotherapy and the author of numerous journal article publications examining neuroscience and counseling.

Eric Beeson received his PhD in counselor education from Ohio University and his MS in rehabilitation counseling from West Virginia University. As a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in North Carolina and West Virginia, a national certified counselor (NCC), an approved clinical supervisor (ACS), a certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC), and certified resilience coach, Eric brings clinical experience in various settings including a residential treatment center for youth, a vocational rehabilitation agency, a community mental health and substance use treatment center, a high school, a university counseling center, an inpatient behavioral health unit, private practice, and a neurofeedback clinic. Eric’s current research focuses on the infusion of neuroscience into counseling research and practice across a variety of therapeutic processes.

Eric is most proud of a few professional accomplishments including: serving as the 43rd President of the American Mental Health Counselors Association (www.amhca.org); co-founding the “Neuroscience” section of the Journal of Mental Health Counseling; commissioning the first ever Neuroscience in Counseling Task Force in 2018; co-editing the book The Neuroeducation Toolbox: Practical Translations of Neuroscience in Counseling and Psychotherapy; and founding the Brainstorm Neuroscience Community (www.webrainstorm.org). These accomplishments resulted in his receipt of the 2020 Gary R. Walz Trailblazer Award from the American Counseling Association.
