Raissa speaks with Dr. Lee Kinsey and Dr. Dee Ray about the many ethical and practical challenges facing counselors responding to COVID-19. The conversation also includes a discussion on the need for individualized risk assessment and decision-making, approaches to adapting practice to align with the realities and limitations of telehealth, and a call for more research and resources related to telehealth, specifically telehealth work with vulnerable populations.

About Dee & Lee:
Dee Ray, Ph.D., LPC-S, NCC, RPT-S, Certified CPRT-S is a Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Counseling Program and Director of the Center for Play Therapy at the University of North Texas. Dr. Ray has published over 100 articles, chapters, and books in the field of play therapy, specializing in research specifically examining the process and effects of Child Centered Play Therapy. Dr. Ray is author of A Therapist’s Guide to Development: The Extraordinarily Normal Years, Advanced Play Therapy: Essential Conditions, Knowledge, and Skills for Child Practice, Child Centered Play Therapy Treatment Manual, and co-author of Group Play Therapy and Child Centered Play Therapy Research.
She is a founding board member and past president of the Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling. She is current editor of the Journal of Child and Adolescent Counseling and recipient of the American Counseling Association Don Dinkmeyer Social Interest Award, Association for Humanistic Counseling Educator Award, Association for Play Therapy Outstanding Research Award, Top 25 Women Professors in Texas Award, and many others. Dr. Ray supervises counseling services to community clients at her university clinic and leads a school outreach program providing play therapy to hundreds of children each year.

>Dr. Kinsey is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas and a National Certified Counselor. He earned his Masters of Science degree in Counseling at Southern Methodist University in 2010 and his Ph.D. in Counseling from the University of North Texas in 2015. Dr. Kinsey maintains a full-time private practice in Dallas, TX where he specializes in sex therapy and relationship counseling, and he serves as an adjunct professor for the counseling program at Southern Methodist University. He also focuses on queer issues in counseling, spiritual/family trauma, and sexual assault recovery. In addition to his counseling practice, Dr. Kinsey is an active researcher who explores the basic nature of the sexual-self – a phrase he uses to describe the essence of who people are as sexual beings including the lessons they’ve learned, the beliefs they hold, and the emotions their sexuality invokes.
