1.5 Hours | 1.5 CEs

This on-demand professional training program on What is Psychopathy is presented by Christopher J. Patrick, PhD in partnership with Society for the Prevention of Disorders of Aggression (formally PsychopathyIs).

Psychopathy is a topic that has long been fascinating to the public at large as well as to scientists and clinical practitioners. However, it has also been subject to considerable confusion and scholarly debate over the years.

This presentation describes alternative conceptions of psychopathy that have been proposed historically and reviews major instruments currently in use for the assessment of psychopathic features/traits in clinical and non-clinical samples. An integrative theoretical framework, the triarchic model, is presented as a basis for reconciling differing historical conceptions and assessment approaches. The program concludes with a discussion of the utility of the triarchic model for addressing issues such as psychopathy subtypes, successful versus unsuccessful psychopathy, and causal factors contributing to different behavioral expressions of psychopathy.

Program Partner

PsychopathyIs

We are proud to partner with PsychopathyIs for this program. PsychopthyIs is an organization dedicated to alleviating the suffering caused by psychopathy. Worldwide, psychopathy affects over 1 in 100 people and is a major source of distress and impairment. But myths, stigmas, and lack of information about psychopathy can make it difficult for people affected by psychopathy and their families to find the support they need. They are dedicated to raising awareness of psychopathy, providing screening tools and other resources for affected individuals and families, and raising funds for research. We also aim to create educational tools for professionals and a national database of treatment providers to help share truths about what psychopathy is and isn't.
