Join Michele Galietta, PhD, as she presents a FREE live virtual professional training program on an Introduction to Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
This 1-hour free training program provides an overview of the components of DBT and specific skills taught in this adaptation of DBT. The presentation is appropriate for clinicians and leadership, practicing in justice-oriented settings.
DBT is a cognitive behavior therapy that adds mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies to traditional CBT to help individuals identify and achieve a meaningful life. DBT has strong empirical support for reducing suicide, violence, self-harm, substance abuse, and other destructive behaviors. This model is increasingly being used in adult and youth justice settings. Settings that use DBT with fidelity can expect reduced restraints and improved staff safety and morale. DBT is a promising intervention for reducing criminality and creating prosocial lives after residential placement or incarceration. DBT skills include mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Training Outline:
- An overview of the components of DBT
- Review skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, specialized justice skills adaptations
- Discussion of how DBT can be used to treat a variety of youth and adult client problems
