This on-demand professional training program on Victim Safety Planning is presented by Kelly A. Watt,  PhD, in partnership with Protect International Risk and Safety Services.

This program discusses professionals’ and workplaces’ responsibilities related to victim safety planning. Victim safety planning is one of the most common management strategies for all violence risk assessments and is a responsibility under both professional obligations and occupational health and safety regulations. However, it is often not given the attention it deserves or requires.

The vast majority of violence occurs in the context of a relationship with others, including current or former intimate partners, family and friends, coworkers and supervisors, and clients or patients. Unfortunately, sometimes there is very little that can be done to intervene with a perpetrator of violence but a great deal to support a victim of violence. This program also provides an overview of best practices and challenging issues related to safety planning. It discusses how to build internal competencies in this area and when to rely on external resources.
