Forensic Psychological Consulting in Child Custody Litigation | Sunday, November 1, 2020

This workshop will address the provision of forensic psychological consulting services to attorneys representing litigants in custody/access disputes. Emphasis will be placed on techniques likely maximize objectivity and minimize the effects of retention bias.

Psychologists attending this session will be able to:

  • List at least four services that can be offered by psychologists providing forensic psychological consulting services to attorneys
  • Describe the sequential activities of consultants functioning as retained work product reviewers
  • Discuss the implications of securing information from the litigants who have been the subjects of reports being reviewed
  • Identify at least 5 steps to be taken when issues linked to cultural diversity may play a role in the evaluative process

Martindale, Ph.D., ABPP, board certified in forensic psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, functions as a consultant to psychologists, attorneys, and state regulatory boards. He has provided services in 34 states, has conducted more than 2,500 work product reviews and has consulted on more than 100 malpractice actions and/or licensing board complaints. Dr. Martindale is the Reporter for the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts’ Model Standards of Practice for Child Custody Evaluation and served on the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts’ Task Force on Child Custody Consulting.
