Program Description

An Introduction to the MMPI-3 for Forensic Psychologists | Thursday, September 24, 2020

Scheduled for release in Fall, 2020, the MMPI-3 provides expanded coverage of personality and psychopathology-related constructs with new norms designed to represent 2020 census projections for the US population. This workshop lays out the rationale for developing the MMPI-3, an overview of the methods used to update the test, a description of the resulting 52 MMPI-3 scales, and information about the empirical foundations of the instrument. Special consideration is given to the challenges associated with the use of updated instruments in forensic assessments.

Psychologists attending this session will be able to:

  • describe the rationale for developing the MMPI-3
  • identify the 52 MMPI-3 scales
  • describe the MMPI-3 norms and how they better represent the demographic makeup of the U.S. population
  • consider the pros and cons of using the MMPI-3 in forensic assessments
