About the Guests:

Victoria E. Kress, Ph.D./LPCC-S, NCC, CCMHC is the director of the clinical mental health and addictions counseling programs at Youngstown State University.  She served as a governor appointed member of the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board, and she previously worked as the Director of Advocacy for NBCC. She has been the recipient of over 40 professional and community service awards, most of which for her advocacy, leadership, scholarship, community service, and mentorship initiatives.  She has published over 130 refereed articles and book chapters, and she has co-authored 5 books on counseling youth and adults. She is a past president of both Chi Sigma Iota International and the Ohio Counseling Association; she is a past ACA Midwest Region Chair; and she is the Elect of the Association for Humanistic Counseling.  She has volunteered in Malawi, Zambia, Rwanda, and Tanzania, advocating for mental health awareness and training, and the professionalization of counseling.

Nicole A. Stargell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP).  Nicole earned her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and school counseling from Youngstown State University, and she earned her doctoral degree in counseling and counselor education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and Licensed School Counselor in both Ohio and North Carolina.  Nicole is a National Certified Counselor and a Board-Certified Telemental Health Provider.

Matthew John Paylo is an Associate Professor and the Counseling Program Director in the Department of Counseling, School Psychology, and Educational Leadership at Youngstown State University.  Matthew earned his master’s degree in community counseling from Slippery Rock University, and he earned his doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision from the University of Virginia. He is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a Supervisor Designation in the State of Ohio. Matthew has co-authored two books on assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental and emotional disorders.  In addition, he has published numerous journal articles and book chapters on trauma, evidence-based treatments, offender treatments, adolescent counseling, social justice counseling, and the implementation of the DSM.

Marissa Gray LPC, CDCA – I am a 24 year old LPC currently residing and working in Youngstown, Ohio. I currently work with at-risk children and adolescents, as well as some adults, in both outpatient and residential settings. I specialize in working with those who have experienced sexual abuse, particularly sex trafficking and other forms of exploitation. I’m blessed to learn from my clients each day, and strive to become a better professional and citizen each day. I have published and presented on the issue of trafficking, and look eagerly forward to continuing to advocate for and work with survivors in the future. I enjoy incorporating art, animals, and play approaches into my therapeutic work. #BlackLivesMatter
