Jerrod Brown, PhD, presents a live professional training program on Alexithymia and Poor Health Outcomes.
Alexithymia is a complex psychological trait defined by difficulty with the identification and description of one’s own emotions. Individuals with alexithymia may even struggle to differentiate their emotions from their bodily sensations.
This trait is a risk factor for a wide array of conditions, including social, emotional, behavioral, and physical health disorders. Intended for professionals, this training is designed to increase awareness of alexithymia, including its implications for screening and intervention in a variety of integrated behavioral health settings.
Relevant topics covered will include comorbid unhealthy lifestyle behaviors, psychopathology, trauma, and psychological distress, executive dysfunction, disruptive attachment patterns, hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, excessive screen time exposure, problematic coping strategies, internalizing and externalizing behaviors, somatization, impulse control problems, chronic pain syndromes, sleep disturbances, emotional dysregulation, loneliness, and social isolation, and substance misuse to name a few. Empirically based research findings will be highlighted throughout this training.
